Battery Indicator stuck at 100% All day

My battery indicator stays at 100% and then will die without warning. Has anyone had this issue? It started doing this within 2 weeks of receiving the watch, the update (6.1) did fix it temporarily and then a couple of days ago, it started again.

Apple Watch Series 5, watchOS 6

I had the same issue and had tried all of the usual suggested solutions. I then found a tip that I had not seen before and it worked for me (for a week now at least). I'll share it in hopes that it works for others as well.

  1. Turn the power off on the iPhone and leave off for at least 20 minutes.
  2. Turn the power off on the Watch and leave off for at least 20 minutes. I left both off for 30 minutes.
  3. Turn the iPhone on.
  4. Turn the Watch on.

Lo and behold, it worked! The battery went to 65% and ticked down in normal increments without shutting off. I have fully recharged every day since and it the battery continues to work normally. I can't explain why that worked, but I hope it works for others having the same problem.

I have the same problem. My Apple Watch Series 5 (44mm) on OS 6.1.1 is only one month old and this problem started a week ago. and got worse. I have tried all of the suggested points on other comments several times but still stuck on 100%. After decoupling and setting as a new watch, the indicator did start to reduce down to about 75%. I charged it up to 100% at 11pm, after wearing it for 13 hours, it is still on 100%. The other issue with this, is that if I put it on charge, I don't know whether or it us actually charging, or how long to leave it on charge, as it immediately shows full green on the charging indicator. Please can you tell me what you did to rectify it yours. This is very disappointing from Apple, after reading so many complaints about this going back several years. I hop yours is still working.

I have had this same problem for the last three days. I tried all the solutions listed, turn off, reset, restore from backup, setup as new. Turn off for an hour. None worked.

Finally I setup watch as new and didn’t let it install all the apps from phone (none so far). Then I turned it off and let set for and hour. 18 hours later it is working and battery levels going down normally. TYJ.

Hey Wayne, that's very interesting. The last Genius Bar conversation I had about this was with a supervisor and she suggested that it might be something in the iphone's software, not in the sofrware or the hardware of the actual watch. A whole new area to explore. But that was really interesting that you didn't put the apps back yet. For the moment, my watch is working OK, but we all know how long that can last....

Replacing the watch, setting up as new etc doesn't fix it. It's some battery indicator issue. It's temporarily fixed by turning the watch off for 30 min or so. After a few charge cycles its back to being stuck at 100% for too many hours. Hopefully a software update will fix this. Battery life is still lasting me 30+ hours just never know when its going to die.

I am another with the issue: Stays at 100% all day, the goes to the red lightning bolt without warning. The past day or two, it is dying after a few minutes off the charger, while on vacation. Bummer. Have now done multiple hard resets and unpair/repair. Deleted all non-Apple apps. Turned off Noise, reduced motion. Yet to do: Leaving off for Hour(s)/Days and Freezer.

I am on WatchOS 6.1.2 beta 2. Certainly sounds like a software issue, which could/should be fixed.

I tried the freezer thing and for a couple days I was so happy. Worked perfectly. And then went downhill again. So incredibly tiring to do all those multiple hard resets and unpair/repair. At the moment, mine is working ok, though I get nervous when it's 99% after being on my wrist all night long. But haven't had the suddenly stone cold event for awhile, not since it came back from Apple Repair, them saying they couldn't duplicate the issue. They only kept it, literally, one day. The only thing I did different was to not start it as a fresh watch, when I got it back from Apple repair. I chose the version that had previously been on there.

Same issue. AW 4 on 6.1.1. Never had a problem until 6.1.1 update. Same symptoms as everyone else. E have been able get it to work doing the power down but it seems to reappear when charged 99%. Turn it off now says 100%. I think this is clearly a software issue but I can’t find a way to consistently fix it. Apple needs to figure it out and get an update out with a fix

Thanks @lxhunter. Update on mine:

After trying the hard reset, unpairing and deleting, then restoring from a saved profile, I still had the same problem. I then unpaired it and deleted everything and started it as a new watch with minimal apps. Still, had the same problem. I then switched it off for 30 minutes and turned it on again. The battery indicated was now showing 85%, which was encouraging, so I left it switched on and the battery indicator continued to drop down. At 65% I charged it up to 100% then turned it off for 15 minutes. I switched it on again and it showed 100%. After that it continued to work properly. I have allowed it to drop to 10% and the battery warning came on. I have charged it up to 100% several times without switching it off. So far so good after a week. I hope I am not tempting fate by writing this! Reading other posts on this issue, I cannot see any real pattern and it seems very hit and miss. I hope Apple can fix this once and for all. If the problem returns, I will update.

It has worked a few days now, so I will update also. I had done multiple hard resets and pair/unpairs - set up from old backup and as new. I left the watch off for a while. No freezer.

And the next pairing, it just worked. It ran as a basic watch for 2-3 days fine, before I cautiously added a new watch face with complications. Still OK. Runs down nicely during the day as it should.

So. either those things worked, OR iMore was again correct in saying we just need to wait a few day after installing the new beta (Jan 14) for the watch to catch up.

So far since upgrading to the latest beta versions of iOS and watchOS my AW4 battery has been acting normal. I let it naturally run down the battery from 100% to below 10% and it turned itself off. Then when charging back up it took the normal amount of time and began showing reasonable battery use as I wore it. I’ve repeated this twice and now on the third test cycle. I did not do any resets or unpair/pairs to the watch.

I have had the same problem with my Series 5 ever since Watch OS 6.0.1 After every WatchOS update the watch gets stuck at 100% battery until it shuts off due to no battery power. After the shutoff, it has behaved and shown a battery strength that moves up and down as I use and charge the watch.

The update to WatchOS 6.1.2 has been no different.

However, I think I do have some good news. After reading the later posts in this thread I powered my Series 5 ( which was showing 100%) off for about 15 minutes. When I powered it back on, it showed 95% and then dropped within 10 minutes to 53%.

I think a power off for 15 minutes after every WatchOS update might be the solution until the WatchOS bug is fixed.

Has anyone else successfully tried the Turn it off for 30 minutes solution? I tried absolutely everything EXCEPT that. Maybe sending it to Apple Repair, where, as I've said, they said they couldn't duplicate the problem or fix it) helped, just because it was turned off for at least 30 minutes. I also wonder if the recent update helped anyone.
