Battery Indicator stuck at 100% All day

My battery indicator stays at 100% and then will die without warning. Has anyone had this issue? It started doing this within 2 weeks of receiving the watch, the update (6.1) did fix it temporarily and then a couple of days ago, it started again.

I sent my Series 5 into the repair center (well, my Apple Store sent it there) and it bounced back from them after a couple days, saying they couldn't replicate the problem. They were useless. It's like the Apple Watch falls into this gulch, as far as Apple support goes. It's the only thing they can't try to fix in the store, at their own Genius Bar. And they weren't that happy with the Apple repair center either. Before I read about the turn it off for 15 min and then back on again, I had literally tried every single thing except getting a new watch (which the store said I couldn't get, since Apple Care didn't cover a repair when they couldn't find the problem). But I've read about people here who got new ones and it didn't help the problem. I've restored from previous, from scratch, put it in the freezer (worked a couple days), taken it to the Genius Bar three times and talked to support in Cupertino (I pay $500 a year for Joint Venture Business Support) and the only consistent thing I ever got was that it was a software issue. No updates ever helped. My previous four Apple Watches, each of the series, didn't have this problem. But then I did the 15 min off and back on (I can't remember how much it was already charged when I did that. I think I did it when it had said 100% for 24 hours and I knew it would in the next 6 hours just randomly die. I haven't had any problems since then and that's been around 2-3 months ago that I did it. If anything, it uses up the battery a tiny bit faster than it used to.

I purchased my Series 5 watch about 4 months ago. After 3-3.5 months I started having this issue. Watch would show 70%, I'd go workout and 10 minutes in the watch would die and not restart until I put it on a charger. As soon as it hit the charger it would show 50% battery remaining. That night I saw an update was pending for 6.2.1 and installed it that night and assumed the issue was resolved, but it persisted.

It eventually got to a point where it continually showed 100%, even after being off the charger for 24+ hours.

After 2 hours otp with support doing remote diagnostics, unpairing, factory resetting, etc... they put in the repair ticket and issued a replacement. My new Series 5 should be here tomorrow.

Hopefully this new one lasts more than 3.5 months.

This is Catscanner, who first started this thread. It's both reassuring to keep seeing comments on this issue and disheartening, since it means that all the updates since I first wrote about it have had little effect. For me, I haven't had the problem in awhile. I did the thing of turning the phone off for 20 minutes when it seemed like it was stuck at 100%. I haven't had the problem is a few months, ever since I read about someone doing that. I put my watch on the charger when I get up and then for maybe 30 min before I get in bed at night. So when I go to bed it's usually between 75-95 and when I get up it's down to 75 again and then I charge it to 100. If anything, the battery seems to run out faster than it used to. I have a Series 5. I've had all the versions. Didn't start for me until I'd had the Series 5 a couple months. I got the 5 right when it first came out. It's been helpful to read that sending it in for repair, as well as just getting an new one, didn't really work out for people. My Apple store wouldn't let me use Applecare to replace the watch, since the repair place couldn't replicate the issue. Even though they only had it for 24 hours. But when I got it back, it worked great for awhile, even though they didn't do anything. But I guess it was turned off for awhile. Thanks to everyone who has commented. Maybe someone at Apple is finally noticing. For sure, no one at the Genius Bar in my local store or the support staff in Cupertino, had ever heard of it, at the time. (I have the Joint Venture support (a business deal), plus I went to the Genius Bar here a few times.

About a month after I purchased my Series 5 watch I had the same problem. I contacted an Apple tech who tested my battery which was fine. He walked me through a bunch of steps nothing worked. But then after unpairing and shutting everything down it’s been months and I have had no issues. What was mind boggling though was that the tech acted as though he had not heard anything about this problem. 🤪 ??

Update on my watch problem. So I performed the hard reset and setup from scratch again and left in on the charger for a few hours. It them seems to begin to work fine. I did go the Apple store in North Austin this past Saturday and they ran some diagnostics on the watch. It reported the battery was in good health and there were no OS crashes on the watch. Since it began working correctly again there have been no issues. Seems like it was a software bug that finally got cleared with all the resetting and unpair/pairing I did. So I will take back my comments about Apple and my watch being broken. Something was wrong but all seems fine now. BTW - the assistant who helped me a the Apple store was very professional and really listened to my problem description. Although the store was packed, he spent time with me and did not try to hurry me off.

I have the same issue with my AW5. After a few days it would stay at 100% for longer and longer. Sometimes 6-7 hours. The longer it stays at 100% the higher percentage it will just die at. So if it stays at 100% for 8 hours it will die at about 25%. The battery is lasting like it should as I get a good 30 hours or so out of it. The problem is I never know when its going to die if I didn't pay attention to how long it stays at 100. I took the watch to the Genus bar. They ran diagnostics and sent it off to Apple. Apple sent it back saying they could not duplicate the issue. I was excited when I got a call the the store had lost my watch. They gave me a brand new one out of the box. Now this one is starting to do the same thing. At this point I'm pretty convinced its some sort of software issue on how it meters the battery. Hopefully tit will be fixed in a software update.

So far since upgrading to the latest beta versions of iOS and watchOS my AW4 battery has been acting normal. I let it naturally run down the battery from 100% to below 10% and it turned itself off. Then when charging back up it took the normal amount of time and began showing reasonable battery use as I wore it. I’ve repeated this twice and now on the third test cycle. I did not do any resets or unpair/pairs to the watch.
