Battery Indicator stuck at 100% All day

My battery indicator stays at 100% and then will die without warning. Has anyone had this issue? It started doing this within 2 weeks of receiving the watch, the update (6.1) did fix it temporarily and then a couple of days ago, it started again.

Apple Watch Series 5, watchOS 6

I had the same issue and had tried all of the usual suggested solutions. I then found a tip that I had not seen before and it worked for me (for a week now at least). I'll share it in hopes that it works for others as well.

  1. Turn the power off on the iPhone and leave off for at least 20 minutes.
  2. Turn the power off on the Watch and leave off for at least 20 minutes. I left both off for 30 minutes.
  3. Turn the iPhone on.
  4. Turn the Watch on.

Lo and behold, it worked! The battery went to 65% and ticked down in normal increments without shutting off. I have fully recharged every day since and it the battery continues to work normally. I can't explain why that worked, but I hope it works for others having the same problem.

As I mentioned before it works for me. I have had a couple instances were the Series 5 got stuck at 100% during daily use without having a WatchOS update. Powering it off for at least 15 minutes has resolved those instances as well. This past week the watch said 100% after about 12 hours of use. I powered it off; not sure for how long. When I powered it back on it showed 76%.

I have an original Apple charger that connects to my computer, and the problem persists. Currently the only solution seems to be the shut down procedure. The problem is it’s difficult to tell when this is necessary, especially if you don’t charge regularly at the same time, or if there is an OS update that requires the charger and puts the whole battery indicator process out of whack.

Clearly there is some sort of calibration issue here. When the watch is off for a bit and at room temp it gives the true reading of the battery. When the watch is warm the battery will give off slightly more voltage indicating it is fuller then it really is. It seems to re calibrate itself to the higher voltage after being worn and charged a few times and can be reset by turning it off for awhile. The more hours it sits at 100% the more it will drop after you turn it off for awhile. It will be fine for a few charge cycles or days until it calibrates at the warmer temperatures of being charged and worn. 6.1.3 has not fixed this. I have a feeling most people don't notice it or care since the battery lasts as advertised. Its more of a nuisance as you never know where you battery level truly is. For those that charge every night its a non issue.

Today I had the apple support person on the phone suggest that the phone is at fault for causing the battery indicator to get stuck or register higher than normal. They wanted me to wipe my phone and set it up from scratch to see if that helped. Has anyone tried that? I'd rather just unpair and repair every few days which seems to work for me than have to set my phone up from scratch again unless this is definitely going to work long term.

This issue started on my V5 last week. Got it in December. Tried everything. Brought it into Apple Store yesterday and they sent it out. Went home, dusted off my version 1 , paired it , charged it enough to get my circles closed on the apple charger, charged it over night on a third party charger that only got it to 73%, wore it to work, % went do to 65, threw it on different Belkin charger for an hour to get it to 100%. GUESS WHAT? VERSION 1 IS NOW STUCK AT 100%. So it either has to be getting messed up buy getting too hot charging or there is an issue with the phone software? Apple really needs to look into this. Will check in when i get new watch back.

The same issue occurred on my iPhone 6s last year. However, haven't experienced on my Apple Watch Series 3, running the latest watchOS 6.

Probably, you need to update your watch to the latest software. One of the drawbacks of this issue is your watch cheats you as you are always under the impression that the watch does not need charging.

Alternatively, you can unpair the watch and pair it again with your iPhone. Try multiple solutions until you get success.

My thinking is this is clearly a firmware issue. It did not start on my watch until around the 6.1 update and continues today. I've done full resets and pairing without any change. The only thing that works is turning the watch off for a bit after charging to 100%. Until Apple figures this out and provides a fix I doubt anything will change. I'm currently running latest iOs on both my XR and my AW4 still having an issue.

Seems like no matter what you do.....all that works for awhile is to turn it off for 15 min and back on and then you'll get an accurate reading, which for me is usually 75% vs when it's stuck at 100%. People buy new watches and get the same problem. They start from scratch, they link to a previous watch setting, they put it in the freezer (works for a few days), and it seems to happen on all versions. I didn't have it until I got my series 5. Updates don't change anything. Multiple genius bar visits and calls and sending it in didn't change anything. Best advice I got was that it was probably a setting in the iphone software. But what can you do besides staying up to date? This was the first Apple Watch I had with an iphone XsMax. That is absolutely the only thing I can think of. I don't use many apps on my iphone besides Wallet, weather apps, bank app and PayPal and Venmo. A mystery. Who knows?

Yo nailed it Cat. This is exactly what my exp is. I don't think setting up the phone as new will fix this and it would take me days to get everything back to the way I want it so even if this is the case id rather live with just shutting it off 15 min or so a week. Clearly that calibrates the battery until the watch is recalibrated on its own a few times when warm giving the illusion the battery is putting out more voltage which is the case when batteries are warmer. Im hoping 13.4 and AW 6.2 that should be released this month will fix the issue but I doubt it.
