Keyboard play/pause/rewind/fast-forward controls with VLC

Hi,

I've just upgraded to macOS Catalina from High Sierra. I previously used to be able to use the media controls on the Touch Bar or Magic Keyboard to control playback in VLC media player. E.g. I could play/pause the track, fast-forward and rewind.

However, since moving to Catalina, the keyboard's media control keys always open the Music app.

Is there a way to override this so that I can use them to control VLC media player again?

Edit: Just to add, the 'Control media playback with media keys' option in VLC's preferences is ticked.

Many thanks.

Just found a solution – turns out VLC requires permission to control the computer, under System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility.

I don't remember it ever asking me for this permission when I upgraded to Catalina.

But it has solved the problem, so I'll leave the solution here in case others have the same issue.
