Music plays separately on Apple Watch and iPhone

I just got an Apple Watch and the Airpods Pro a couple days ago so I'm still figuring this out. I could've sworn the first night I had it when I started playing music from my Apple Watch, the song popped up on my phone screen as playing too. I ended up having some connectivity issues and had to forget and reconnect my stuff. Now when I play music on my phone it shows up in the Now Playing app on the watch where I can skip, play, pause songs, but if I go to choose a song from Apple Music on the watch, the Airpods start playing from the watch and the music on my phone pauses. Is there a way to have the same music playing from my watch and phone?

Hi, Enaro!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. I see from your post that you enjoy controlling music playback on your iPhone using your Apple Watch, and understand you'd like to start music on your Apple Watch but have them play o your iPhone. I'm happy to help!

On your Apple Watch, open the Music app. If you see a track queued, tap the red back arrow in the upper left of the display until you see Music there. Once you're on the main Music menu, tap the On iPhone category from the top of the list (you may need to scroll up). From here, browse your playlists, artists, and albums that are on your iPhone and you are able to not only control playback once it starts, but initiate it as well, right from the Apple Watch.

If you're an Apple Music member, you can also select For You to access additional Apple Music categories.

Play music on Apple Watch - Apple Support will provide you more information on playing music with your Apple Watch.

Cheers!
