iMac freezes on start up since Security Update Nov. 6, 2109

I have an iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015) which has begun to stop booting up when I turn it on. I am running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.

Since the computer installed the last security update (Security Update 2019-006), this problem of start up stopping began. Like the last update! I hate these updates!

I have tried a SMR and I have started up in Recovery mode to do a First-aid on the boot drive. Problem still recurring. What I should do next besides re-installing the OS or upgrading OS. Should I empty the system cache folder? Should I reset the NVRAM or PRAM?

Any ideas?

Thanks Mac users!

Hi Dino, it may require a reinstall, but...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.

Hi BDAqua,

Oh okay; I might have to re-install the OS.

Everytime start-up stalled, I turned off the computer by holding the power button and powered it back on booting up in Safe Mode. It did not occur in Safe Mode, however, the computer screen glitched about four times.

Thank-you very much for the insight. I am glad to know that Safe Mode clears caches and Disk repairs.
