Unable to connect new Apple Watch

”Unable to check for Update: checking for software update failed because you are not connected to the internet.” My sister gave me her Apple Watch series 4. She unpaired it and unlinked it from her Apple account. I’m trying to pair it to my phone and set it up as a new watch, but I can’t get past this update error message.


i’ve updated my iOS to the newest update and restarted both devices multiple times, but I am still given the same error. I can’t access the “my watch” options through the Apple Watch app to update the software manually because it wasn’t linked to my phone to begin with. I am connected to a reliable WiFi—help!

Having exact same issue with Apple Watch series 3. I got a new iphone 11 pro max so obviously had to re-pair my watch with my new iphone, except it will not work. I get the same message as above when I try to pair and I am definitely connected to internet. Tried on 3 different wifi networks. Have reset phone network settings and have hard reset watch. Still waiting for solution from Apple engineers. Reported this issue over a week ago and still no solution reported from my assigned apple rep
