MacOS Catalina crashes at shutdown

Can we get some help on this thread from someone in the know? Obviously it’s a proper issue and one that should’ve been resolved before now.

Same problem here, running Catalina 10.15.2 on iMac Retina 5k

Clean my mac is not endorsed by anyone on this forum. Get rid if I were you - if it lets you.

Personally I would not use any of those but CMM is a killer.

How do they work perfectly well on one OS but not the next?

More and more people having the same issue with an obvious bug, in Catalina.

I don't use Time Machine, so either the root cause is something else, or there are multiple problems causing hang on shutdown in Catalina.

Does it crash if you log out of your user account first?

Makes sense.

I have simple wired TM and I will always check it is not in the backup process and eject all disks before shutting down.

Do you know what backup service you are using? AFP or SMB?

And further to that how do you change it?

Also why should it matter? None of this problems were in Mojave.

When will apple address this obvious and f*****g annoying issue. It's clearly as OS bug.

Upgrading to an OS which predicates older network protocols (or 32bit apps etc) is not a bug, however annoying it may be.

Keep up technically or return to Mojave

This backup is directly to a Airport Time Capsule. So I believe AFP.

Time Machine supports both SMB and AFP. For macOS Sierra and later, Time Machine uses SMB, instead of AFP, as the default protocol.
