If you do not wish to use Terminal open https://support.apple.com/kb/HT208050 and follow the instructions for using System Preferences
Thank you for your reply. I tried this but nothing happened. The cursor prompt was a key shape and seemed to prevent any entry. Do you have any other ideas. Cheers ajg
This does not seem to be relevant to this topic. The issuing of the initial command is very simple. What are you actually trying to do?
I received terminal icon what is this means.
what is this and do I need to run something if so how do I do that
after I typed 'chsh -s /bin/zsh' in terminal it asked for my password but it's locked, (it has a key icon) I can't type the password, does not let me type... How do I unlock it?
Yes, you can start with answering: What is zsh?
I've tried that and it didn't work..?
The default interactive shell is now zsh I have just updated my software to Catalina and my security software is not opening.
Activation lock is not working
Activation lock is not working
What is "Activation lock" and why do you think it has anything to do with this Post about the default interactive shell being changed to zsh?
Just do what it says. It has specific instructions. It is an official Apple document and is to be trusted
https://support.apple.com/kb/HT208050o tells you everything you need to know, and no-one here can explain it any better
Thanks again. I did this but reply is saying : chsh: Credentials could not be verified, username or password is invalid. Credentials could not be verified, username or password is invalid.
I used the same password as allows me to sign on etc. Any suggestions?
Below...in order to correct the camera issue, one thread pointed me to input a sudo command 'killall AppleCameraAssistant', in terminal which requires first requires a password...(which still will not work). Per other threads I should update the shell to zsh before killing the camera.
"How did I get here did you ask??.....I am trying to determine how to fix an Apple screw up...all Video conferencing software including Apple's Facetime, on my Apple Macbook Pro won't recognize the internal camera at a time when video conferencing is a necessity. The system shows a Facetime camera, but the system does not recognize it. As a fix, another Apple forum pointed me to this set of instructions without any explanations...just do this. Why I am here or why any user should care about the 'shell' or any shell in any software system is absurd, particularly given the price of any Apple product."
To update your account to use zsh, please open Terminal and paste
chsh -s /bin/zsh
Then press enter. That's it.
Stop putting quotes around the command.
Copy it from the directions. Those are backticks, not apostrophes.
`chsh -s /bin/zsh`
The default interactive shell is now zsh
