Autocorrect/Predictive text not working in text messages

Recently...the last 3 weeks or so, my autocorrect, predictive text, auto cap, the whole shebang basically, stopped working in my text messaging on my iPhone 8+. As I’m typing this on my phone in a browser, all those things are working. They’re all turned on in the settings/keyboard screen. I’ve restarted my phone multiple times. I’ve reset my keyboard dictionary. My phone is up to date. There is no obvious reason why it’s not working. Thoughts? Help!

Hello Rosehillmb,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you're having some issues with autocorrect and predictive text specific to the Messages app.

Knowing that these functions work as expected in your web browser is helpful.

Have you installed any third-party keyboards? If so, I recommend temporarily uninstalling it in order to narrow things down: About the keyboards settings on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

"To delete a third-party keyboard:

  1. Go to Settings > General, tap Keyboard, then tap Keyboards.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. Tap , then tap Done.

You can also delete a keyboard by deleting the companion app that you installed from the App Store. This also removes the keyboard from Settings."

You might also check if you have any keyboards for other languages added under Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards.

If none of the above seems to help, try toggling Auto-Capitalization, Auto-Correction, and Predictive to off and then back on to see if that helps.

Take care.
