Possible water damage. Can I get the info off of the hard drive?

I spilled some water on my MacBook Air :'-( Stupid, I know. The tech department for my school district attempted to repair it but it came back as "MLB dead". I had a ton of files on this computer because I used it when I got my master's degree. Some things were saved to the cloud, but I don't think everything is there.

My question is this: can I get the files off of the hard drive in order to put them on another MacBook Air?

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.14

Share files between two computers with target disk mode - https://support.apple.com/HT201462

The ability to take out the drive and hope it will work in an enclosure will depend upon the exact model computer you own. MBA 13" has many model years.
