Siri has stopped 'talking'

Have done all updates on my iPhone 10.s, and Siri does not 'verbalize' - it still performs, but it doesn't talk to me - it shows me typed messages... It also stopped reading my messages to me on my car play. When I say 'call home,' it calls home, but it doesn't say 'calling home.' I have an appointment at the Apple store tomorrow, but I'd really rather not have to go all the way over there......

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, hgmny!

I understand you're not getting responses from Siri. I'd be happy to provide information to help you address this.

Have a look at the following article: If Siri or "Hey Siri" isn't working

"If Siri doesn't speak responses

Siri might not respond verbally if your device is muted or Voice Feedback is turned off. While you're on the Siri screen, try to increase the volume level on your device. Then check your Voice Feedback settings:

  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Siri & Search > Voice Feedback. From here, you can change how Siri responds. For example, you can have Siri always respond or only when you're using the Hands-Free setting.
  • On your Mac, go to Apple () menu > System Preferences > Siri and make sure that Voice Feedback is on."

Have a great day!

Hi,

Thanks for your response, but I tried all that... and I went to the Apple Store on Monday.. and they couldn't figure it out either... and I didn't want to do a restore on the phone ...

So when I went home, and I tried a different 'voice.' I changed Siri from female to male.. and guess what?! IT WORKS!

An odd fix, but it works!

I actually called the store to let them know, b/c it saved me from having to do a restore, and take the chance of it still not working....
