Macbook Sleep Wake failure in EFI (Failure code:: 0xffffffff 0x0000001f)

I have two macbook's, one model end 2018 and one model begin 2019.

They both suffer from the same problem with a fresh installation (also reset NVRAM, PRAM, SMC).

The crash reason: Sleep Wake failure in EFI

Failure code:: 0xffffffff 0x0000001f

I already contacted Senior Support for this and have a running case for both.

If you run into the same problem, please let me know here.

To trace down the problem more info of different devices can be useful.

If I get feedback that solves it, I'll post it here.

I had the same problem, and finally found a very odd solution. In my case, after a lot of frustrating work, I traced the problem to an old USB hub I was using on my new mac. Once I disconnected the old USB hub, the problem immediately stopped. In my case, it was surprising and very lucky to discover that the problem seemed to be associated with an attached electronic component. Hope this helps you.

**** it. I had this problem around two weeks ago, and posted about it then, and I was hoping the problem was solved, since it hasn't happened since. But now, I turned off my Mac(Retina, 13-inch, 2019) for 1 hour and 30 minutes, and I get this failure for the second time. There is a new software update though. Has anyone downloaded that and had success with this issue?

I also have a Macbook Air 2019 with the same problem, even when I open my Mac turned off it doesn't turn on after 1 minute even if I press the on button, technical support says they have a lot of report but none of them have solved that. I have also noticed that sometimes the screen goes and appear a lot of horizontal lines, like if I unplug the screen cable or flex I don't know if it's related.

Then diagnosed as the HDD cable but still same problem after changing.

With hindsight I think it may have started around the time I installed Catalina

SMC resent appeared to work for a few days but no longer.

Any response from Apple yet

I opened a ticket via Chat with apple, the agent was not very helpful and told me that this could only be handled via phone. So they wanted to call me back within an hour. Hour later a received an automated robo-call that told me to wait. After 10 minutes there was an agent wo told me that this would need to be handled by technical principal and the current wait time is over an hour. He then suggested it would be better when they call me back on monday. (It was late Friday). I agreed, they never called back.

I'm an Apple user for 15+ years, never had such a bad experience.

I have been trying to solve this for 3 weeks now. Apple is just being so hopeless. No answers from support and I have tried to organize callbacks from technical support and no call comes. Really feels like Apple is losing it. Particularly annoying given how much this MacBook cost. I’ve had it for over a month and haven’t really been able to use it. And AppleCare also seems like a total waste of money. Time to jump to a PC?

Jul 12, 2020 10:31 AM in response to philippg

This pretty much sums up my finds as well from my original post a few months ago. I agree that keeping on batter power works but is not acceptable as that defeats the purpose of a laptop.

i also tried to just log out and leave on login screen and closing the laptop but get the same error.

best I find is to shutdown so I don’t get the error, but I say again what’s the point of a laptop?

funny how my Mac desktop is on on 24/7 365 and sleeps all the time without any issues and it’s a 2013.

I have the same issue, 3 days ago, on a new MacBook Pro 13", 2019 two thunderbolt, on Catalina. Mac was both on 3 october 2019, 1 year warranty.

So the warranty is just finished.

I've tried everything, even upgrade to Big Sur, nothing works!

Is just restarting by himself, the Touch Bar is flickering and and flashing for 2-3 seconds and then restarts.

Apple, pls do something!!!

Same problem here, for months. I can no longer use my MacBook as a portable. I'm very sad to read that the problem is still not resolved. At the moment I'm looking for a replacement for my MacBook Pro from 2014 and would like to buy a 16" Pro, but certainly not which such problems. Its a shame that bugs in Apple software become more common in the last years.

Nov 10, 2020 10:40 PM in response to Mihahn

same problem with my macbook air 2013, it randomly goes black screen when it's on, can't wake up unless press power button. I tried this above code to solve it, it stops shutting down when it's on, but with the lid closed for over half an hour, it won't wake up once the lid is on, sometimes even need to use the control+option+shift+ power to reboot it.
