Problem moving iTunes library

Hello

I'm still using macOS Mojave and I want to move my iTunes library to a usb drive that will stay attached to my laptop. I copied the whole "Music" folder to this drive and then opened iTunes while holding down the "option" key. It asked me to choose a library. I chose the iTunes folder on the usb drive, but I get a message saying "An iTunes library file could not be found in the folder 'iTunes'. Please choose a different folder.

What should I do?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.12

See Make a split library portable - Apple Community. If your library has been migrated through a number of versions of iTunes it is possible the library file is called iTunes Library rather than iTunes Library.itl. Either way you may need to explicitly select the library file rather than the folder that should contain it. Another possible explanation might be if an earlier update had corrupted the library file and you'd ended up using a version in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder without really being aware of it.
