Apple Notes Blank

Sometimes when I go to my notes on my phone, the contents of my notes have disappeared. The only way I have been able to get them back is by going to my notes on my computer and editing the note where the content shows up.

To be clear - is it not a login issue. I am logged in to all of my accounts and I am able to see my notes. The title of the note is there, the subtext is there, but when I click the note, it is blank. Oddly enough, it will let me write in the note but with "invisible ink" so I don't see anything when I am typing, but if I leave the note, I can see gibberish in the subtext. See photos below.

So that image shows what I see even if I'm writing (of course there is a keyboard below). The second image shows what shows up after I write something, but if I click the note, I see nothing! Very frustrating when I need the content of a note when I only have my phone. I am not having this problem with my computer. Sometimes if I close out of notes, it lets me see what I'm writing again, but I still can't access the data on a note that is blanked out on my phone until I open it and edit it on my computer and they resync... its a confusing problem, I hope I have explained it clearly but if you need clarification just let me know.

I just got a brand new iPhone XR. Please help!

Hi was just on to Apple support

They sent this link, have a read and if it sorts

“our notes problem”

Can you please report back if it works cheers

I have a feeling it is to do with Icloud, do you all use Icloud? if you go to notes and the note you want is not there

click on folder on top left hand corner and go to notes in i cloud and see if the note you want works there.

Tell us if you find this is ok! or this below is the link they sent

Hello Ninaxtina1,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to see contents of notes on your iPhone, unless you edit the notes on your computer. If you haven't already, please force close the Notes app and restart your device as iOS clears cached data and does other system optimizations when you turn your device off and on.

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Next, make sure your iPhone is fully up to date, as the updates contain stability fixes that can resolve issues like yours, as well as important security updates to keep your iPhone safe. If you're still having this issue, please contact Apple for further assistance.

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!

I had a similar problem. When I used the Notes application on my computer the note appeared fine. When accessing it on my iPhone the note was duplicated multiple times. Some of notes were blank and others didn't have the latest information.

The note I was having problems with was synced using Gmail. I fixed it by saving the note (opened the note and copy/pasted to another document).

Then I logged in to Gmail.com in a web browser. On left side I clicked on Notes label. This showed me all of my notes. I saw the note duplicated multiple times. I deleted all of the problem notes.

Then I created a new note and copy/pasted the original information in to that note. Hope this information helps someone.

You go to your main screen, swipe slowly from the bottom to halfway up the screen to “own” whatever active windows you have open. When your empty notes screen appears, swipe upward quickly to close the window. Now when you click the notes icon your notes come up in place rather than blank. Sorry if I didn’t explain this well. You can also google it for a better description. This works SO MUCH better and quicker than an entire reboot.

I also experience this, and it’s a massive pain as it happens several times a day as I’m constantly using notes on iPad Pro on iOS13.7. The problem has persisted through several updates of iOS and I find the best way to resolve it is to quit notes, reopen then go onto another account, then back to the account in which your notes are stored. Then they will display again.

The radio silence from Apple on this issue apart from “restart the device” is less than impressive. My main use of my iPad has been almost unusable for nearly six months now. These things are what undermines users’ faith in Apple.

I have a "fix" for this, actually more of a workaround, which allows you to access the note but not to edit it within Notes. When you pull up the blank note, hit the share icon (center bottom on my iPhone X) and text (or email) it to yourself. Somehow, the content is not actually gone, just invisible, because it will appear for sharing. This is useful, for example, with a shopping list you've made but find had gone missing when you get to the store. Text it to yourself from the seemingly blank note and your content will reappear. You can edit the content before hitting send, if desired. This has saved me many times.

I also notice that the content eventually seems to reappear within Notes without rebooting, seemingly at random.

Hope this helps!

It happen to me just now with my new IPhone 12, I found a Solution.

  1. make sure your New iPhone 12 or ext, ICloud note are Sync.
  2. On one of your device, IMac or MacBook or IPad ext Make sure the ICloud is Sync.
  3. On one of your device iPad, or iMac ext, you probably have the note that’s not blank.
  4. make a new note and copy and Paste it to the new note.
  5. check back to your new iPhone 12, ext, it should appeared normally as a new note with your old note that you copy and paste.
  6. delete the blank note and your done.

I’ve had this problem on my iPhone X too. I don’t know if everyone’s problem is the same but I use notes with the phone upright. If I happen to turn the phone sideways, the contents of the note becomes invisible. I used to restart the phone to make the note visible again. Someone’s useful suggestion to force close the app works faster but the problem persists.

After force closing the app, I tried holding the phone sideways while opening the app. After that I haven’t had the problem again, even when opening the app with the phone upright. It’s been about a week so I’m hoping the problem won’t come back.

i replaced my 7 with an 11 a week ago because of a few annoying problems, this being one of them. Getting a new phone did not fix any of the problems. The only thing that has worked is turning the phone off and on again. It seems to me it’s connected with a recent iOS update (not sure which one, but within the past 6-12 months) and is a system problem, not an old phone or outdated iOS problem. ,

Same problem with notes. Have had it for several years on both 6 and 8. Updated IOS. Problem getting more frequent. Always occurs as I am doing some sort of edit or addition to an existing note. Problem always solved with a restart but this is ridiculous. The weird thing is that I can type onto the now-blank note and see nothing. After the restart the newly-typed characters are visible. There is simply no excuse for this glitch.
