change user account and home folder name in Catalina?

I needed to change the name of my User Account in MacOS Catalina. I set up an additional admin User, and while logged in there, renamed the home folder, then used Advanced option in the Users and Accounts CP to change the account and home folder name and location for the account, as was recommended in online resources (recent but not specifically aimed at Catalina).

It seemed to work - but I noted some application issues. Most alarming was that TextEdit could not save a document on "desktop" as listed in the "Save" dialogue box, since it couldn't find the location - presumably it was looking for Desktop in the old-named Home folder. Browse-to-folder option wasn't available.

I also had an error with SuperDuper, related to the application seeking a file in Application Support under the old name, though the author offerred a solution.

I changed the name back, which restored everything. I can't have surprise errors popping up ongoing.

Is there a more complete way to change User Account (and home folder) name in Catalina?
