Have changed User name from Jon to John however the folder Jon still exists on my Data disk and in fact is still being used despite me being signed in as John.
Specifically my visible Desktop is not the Desktop for John but rather the Desktop for Jon.
Also files automatically saved from Joplin show up in both User files.

It is usually best to research how to use options located under Advanced sections since they may not work like you may think....this is one great example.

I hope you have another admin user account available on this Mac, because you will need it to follow the instructions in that Apple article because your current user is most likely no longer an "admin" user.

Thank you for that. I have obviously brought this on myself. Am trying to restore from a TT backup prior to changes but it seems to always revert to 'latest' despite selection of earlier backup to actually restore.
At the moment I have managed to remove the folder containing the wrongly added user and everything seems OK.
