intermittent problem with IPad Pro touch screen

Ipad Pro 2018 10.5 with apple keyboard attached.

When typing using the screen keypad (not the attached apple keypad) I get many, many "missed" keys ESPECIALLY the "space" key, so that my words run together responding to emails, texts etc.

Additionally, I have noticed the other "touches" (say for an application) freezing and not working.

I am wondering if the attached Apple keyboard is the issue or simply the screen is slowly becoming unresponsive?
