USB C to HDMI Audio Troubleshooting

I have a 2018 Macbook Pro Quad-Core Intel Core i5, running OS Catalina and for the life of me cannot figure out how to get audio to play through my mini displayport c to hdmi. There is no hdmi audio output option to select. I know the hdmi cable supports audio and so does the adapter. I have gone my Audio Midi Setup, it does not even recognize there is an hdmi cable plugged in. I know people have been experiencing this issue and I have yet to come across a solution. Please let me know if you have experienced this and if you have any answers. Thanks!

It sounds like you're having an issue with the option to play audio through HDMI being missing. I recommend you check out this article for How to reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac.

Also, check out this article with steps for How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac to create a new user and test the issue in the new account to see if the issue is user specific or system wide.
