Apple ID details wrong

Hi, after unbricking my iphone, couldn't log into itunes and error codes sent me to iforgot.

However, despite have the correct login details (email and password), I was forced to create a new apple ID.

The next login attempt to me the AppleID had been locked and to use iforgot,apple.com to unlock.

However, this failed to recognize my password, told me and told me my date of birth was wrong (yes, format was correct).

So I tried the email reset option, but this had an email unknown to me.

I have never changed my email address.

Could identity have been hacked or my details cloned by someone else?

The phone was bought new, when I got it, through "Three" phone network, so could not have beem cloned.
