Wi-Fi not working properly when running Windows 10

My MacBook Pro 15" enjoys internet speeds of 400 Mb/s and higher when running macOS Catalina. However, when the computer has run Windows 10 in the same environment it claims it is 'connected' to Wi-Fi but has been unable to load a webpage or run a speed test.


I have tried reinstalling Apple's Windows Support Software and I have turned off to Bluetooth to ensure wireless interference wasn't the culprit. Unfortunately, neither strategy helped the situation in the slightest.


Please let me know what other potential solutions are at my disposal.

Take a look at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2500967/how-to-stop-windows-7-automatically-installing-drivers . This also works on W8.1/W10.


There are two separate issues.


  • The bad 7.77.x.x. driver, and,
  • The bad driver for Macs which cannot rollback.


You can get the original drivers using BC Assistant -> Action -> Download for older Macs.

The 7.77.110.0 driver is the source of the problem. Here is a workaround:


  1. Open Device Manager
  2. Right-click on the Wifi Network Adapter
  3. Select Properties
  4. Navigate to the Driver Tab
  5. Click on Update Driver
  6. Choose "Browse my computer for up driver software"
  7. Click on 'Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer'
  8. Choose 7.35.118.83 (4/20/2018) if you have it.

I ran the commands you asked and got the following results:


I have tested my machine while running Windows on a different network. This network uses an Asus router with separate SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5GHz frequencies. I tested my MacBook's performance. Unfortunately the experience was identical to that of the Netgear Orbi network tested earlier. Windows claims it is 'connected' to the internet but is unable to load any content from the web.


I used the Acrylic Wi-Fi Home tool and a WLAN test on both networks. I have attached these below.

Here's a screenshot from Wireshark on the Netgear Orbi network.


As mentioned in a previous post, I have tried my luck with an Asus network in a different house. My experience was the same (could not access any online content even though Windows claims it was 'connected' to the network). Alexander Funke appears to have the same problem.

I think this is a driver issue. What Windows build, network adapter and driver version are you running?


I also currently have issues with Wi-Fi after a clean install of Windows 10 (1909). At first I had a connection but it was slow, now I just get the message "Can't connect to this network".

My guess is that the Broadcom driver they issue (7.35.118.68) is outdated. I have been able to get a hold on a couple of earlier drivers, but they did not solve the problem.


If anyone knows where to find a full list of Broadcom drivers that would be very helpful. Broadcom does not seem to provide wifi-drivers themselves and I just end up in ad-polluted driver sites.

Thanks for those reference threads. Do you recommend I try installing a older driver? How would I go about doing this?


I have a Netgear Orbi home network. Two 2.4/5GHz satellites connect to a 2.4/5GHz main router. No other devices in the household have experienced difficulty with this set up. I do not have any other Windows devices to test with.

Do you have the ability to rollback the driver?

As a test, turn off the satellites, and check if you can connect.

From your Sharepoint report, your card is connected to the MAC ending in bc:af:51 (Fitzgerald WiFi) as a 802.11n client.


If you are unable to connect to any websites, in a Windows CMD window, run


ping -c 3 10.0.0.1


This is your DNS server shown in the ipconfig /all output. You can also run


nslookup www.google.com


and check if you get a valid response back.

Thank you for your question. I have the exact same Problem. Unfortunately I cannot tell exactly when it happened first. In my Office I am connected via cable, at home via Wifi.


Tried different "repairs" (win10) and a complete deletion of the Partition and another new Installation. Same results as before. I cannot detect any repeatable pattern. I hope someone has a solution.
