When the F will Apple make Photos compatible with HEIC/HEIF or whatever formats my iPhone uses!!!! I can't sync edited photos and **** it I've tossed away old ones that showed up as undisplayable blobs!

Which system is installed on your Mac?
Any version of MacOS X since High Sierra can handle HEIC images and HEVC videos. You need Photos 3,0 on High Sierra or a newer version. See: Using HEIF or HEVC media on Apple devices - Apple Support

HEVC edited phots on my iPhone show up as non-importable file icons during import. Now it works. The "only" thing I can remember doing is to go to iPhone photo settings and switch between the formats until I left it in 'automatic' import mode.
It seems to work now.
