Battery drain iOS 13.2.3 iPhone 6S

Anyone else experiencing a significant drop in battery life after upgrading to iOS 13.2.2? It’s not fixed in 13.2.3. My battery health is 98%, and no single app is using a disproportionate amount of battery according to the battery stats in system setting. Apple support did a diagnostic and didn’t find anything amiss. I can literally watch my battery drain as a type this post. I’ve done two hard resets, but I haven’t done a complete wipe and restore yet. Any other ideas?

I can hardly believe it but after replacing the battery by Apple the problem is obviously solved. I think iOS12 has different tolerance limits than iOS13 for slightly damaged batteries. In iOS13, fundamental changes were made to the APP packages, which may load the CPU differently. It could be possible that the battery management on the 6s is not properly adapted to this yet. However, the Apple support could not explain satisfactorily even though I had sent the screen shot above ...

That's good news for you and hopefully good news for all the other million customers experiencing the same or very similar battery draining issues with their phones suddenly becoming useless after upgrading to iOS 13x.x.x

My iPhone SE is now running 13.2.3 and showing the 13.3 update available, but since the battery draining issue has remained regardless of the number of "patches" Apple have released, I'm reluctant to update it without any evidence it will fix or at least improve the situation. Btw my battery health is 97% and the only real improvement I've been able to make is by resetting the phone to factory settings and starting with a fresh install. This is combined with a long list of changes in the settings to reduce battery drain, with the biggest difference coming from minimising background updates, little or no location services allowed (Ask Next Time or Never) and leaving it on Low Power Mode overnight.

Yours faithfully,

UPDATE: I've now taken the plunge and updated to iOS 13.3 after much deliberation and the results so far are very promising. After updating this morning I left the phone to fully recharge to 100%, so from 7:15am this morning to 1pm the same day, whilst listening to Apple music on my ear pods for my 40min journey to work and light use (including a short phone call) at work my indicated battery percentage is still 90%. I hope this helps you and others to find a solution to the apparent battery draining issues, if updating to iOS 13.3 alone doesn't fix the issue.

Update: I had a chat yesterday with Apple who obviously can't understand / fix the issue apart of suggesting a restore without backup... or buy a new battery on my own budget which I feel it is a theft based that my phone is new and just a month over warranty. This is what I would call "programmed obsolescence" and I think this has become illegal.

Today, I was left with 1%, but still got to listen to music for a couple of hours, surfed on the web and couple of things. I reboot my 6S, to see it then went back up to 36%, used it again for a couple of hours included a 1h full video mode, until it shuts down by itself. I let the dust settle and turned it on again, appeared to be 5%. Drained it for another hour... and it's now fully discharged.

Result: I actually realised that none of the apps or usage actually drains the battery, but the indicator is wrong and makes my phone shutting down eventually based on a false indicator.

I am appalled that Apple is somewhat forcing our phones to be updated with softwares full of bugs. Is Apple gonna sort this serious problem? Is there a formal complaint going on?

Hello,

I have the same problem on 2 devices. No changes on 13.3. Battery condition at 92%. I found that updating apps in the app store sometimes consumes 1% energy every 10 seconds. If the battery was below 40%, the phone was even switched off. When you restart, 20% is displayed again and the phone runs for a few hours. The graphic in the battery area shows a large gap between 40 and 20%, then the curve is exactly flat for a while (even the display is switched on and apps are running).

I think there is a problem with CPU power management and / or loading statistics feedback in iOS > 13.

Installing / decompressing apps should be a CPU-intensive process.

I've never had problems before iOS 13. I'm angry that I can't use iOS 12.x.

Maybe you can also observe the behavior in the app store and give feedback to the fruit-group.

I am having the very same problem on my 6s...Battery would drain almost immediately, after a hard reboot, battery jumps back to normal....I have found some stability by putting the phone into airplane mode...seems like the battery drop is not so significant and have not had to do a hard reboot. Though this is not by any means a fix...hope Apple gets this fixed soon!!!

Have the same issue on my iPhone 6s. Battery health 98%. But photo app is showing 90% use. The app is not running in the background. Apple support (via phone call), did a full wipe, ie factory restore then installed backup. Battery still draining. Checked battery health and it says 98% and Apple photo app is using 89%. Apple support run diagnostic (via phone), and could not determine the issue. Have an appointment with Genius Bar. I to get some answers.

I updated to iOS 13.2.3 (iPhone 6s) yesterday and notice right away that the battery life seemed to go way down.

I charged it for 45 minutes on my way home to 89%. Went to bed several hours later to 63% not having used my phone at all. Got up 7 hours later to 24%. WTF? Today I charged it again on my way to the office was at 83%. I can almost watch the it drop 1% for every minute the screen is on. If the screen is off it will drain about 15% an hour. Seems really ridiculous to me that Apple keeps providing updates that cause battery issues. This will probably be my last iPhone. My phone is useless if I have to plug it in every hour get it to stay on.

Having the same problem on a 6s that has been working with no battery problems since the phone was purchased.

A quick Google shows that all of a sudden, the same problem is turning up on 6s and similar iPhones at the same time!!!

After fully charging, simply unplugging the phone and being at the home screen without running any apps, the battery percent charge will start decreasing 1 full percentage point every 30 seconds! Conversely, plugging in the phone results in similar charge level increase rate. In both cases, the drain and charge level rates couldn't possibly be right.

Apple's silence regarding this issue is really making me angry. HEY APPLE, WTF?? One of the reasons why I chose iPhone was because I thought that Apple was very responsive to its users. Please don't prove me wrong.

UPDATE: Apple reached out to me to look into the problem. They set my phone up to report battery usage and other statistics back to them. They took that data for analysis last night. Apple is aware of this problem and is working to fix it. I upgraded to 13.3 last night, and I'm hoping that the problem goes away with the update. I will say, I am very impressed that Apple proactively reached out to work on finding a solution to the problem.

I have an iPhone 6S with IOS 13.3 installed and this issue is definitely NOT fixed. I get the same visible dropping of percentage charged by the minute, the same issue with reboots and the percentage pops back up to a much higher level only to drop back rapidly. It appears to partially be a false reading, however, as the percentage dropped to 5% several hours ago and has remained there with no issues on usage. It will still be dead before I get home from an 8 hour work day, which wasn't the case prior to 13 - I could forget to charge overnight and make it through the whole of the next work day.

Maybe there is a little controller on battery pack witch is creating problems in early manufactured devices , only in combination with IOS13 . Maybe the new OS doesn't support these early chips correctly and apple has no desire to fix problems of 'too old' devices that have already had their money squeezed out ...

I just spent another € 59 on battery replacement (92% health / 120 cycles) to keep my beloved built-in headphone jack

We have had different type iPhones for more then 10 Years. Never had a problem like now with the iPhone 6S battery drain. After update 13.3 (on13 december 2019) it drains rapidly.

To find the problem I tested my iPhone7 with my iPhone 6S.

Both got exact at the same time, December 2018,  a new battery by Apple and a clean fresh new install (no backups restored). Now the battery-condition is 91% for both devices.

After I stopped all the apps, a restart and also a hard-reset procedure (to reset the battery indicator) I fully charge the battery’s to 100% and left it for an extra hour at the charger. The iPhones have the same apps installed and the same settings.

I turned them on and left them unused (no app running) next to each other on the table and compared the battery-drain:

After 14 (UNUSED) hours the iPhone7 was at 67% and the iPhone 6S at 33% !!!!!

Please Apple FIX this problem.
