Memory upgrade for a MacBook Pro purchased with Aeroplan points

Hi, I am currently waiting for my new MacBook Pro to be shipped to me which I purchased using Aeroplan points. I was planning to upgrade the memory from 8 to 16 GB but just discovered (in horror) that it is not possible to do so. Once I receive the new MacBook, can I bring it in to an Apple store, pay the difference between the 8 and the 16 GB model and trade up?

Apple will not upgrade the RAM, but you can return within 14 days and then buy a different one.

I think you can do that or once returns it to Apple and refunds, then repurchase 16GB model.
