desktop documents not appearing in icloud in finder

I have just had my logic board replaced and now I'm going through all the madness of trying to replace every setting I lost. One thing that seems to be more difficult is all the folders and files in my icloud drive don't appear in the folders in the finder. I have everything tabbed, ticked and switched on correctly, and I have tried the restart as well, but nothing seems to reveal them. I can see them all in the online icloud drive and on my phone, but not on my macbook pro.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Try going to System Preferences/iCloud (Apple ID for Catalina) and stop iCloud Drive syncing by unchecking the box. Wait a couple of minutes, then check syncing. Allow time for the sync to complete.

Last resort - have you tried signing out of iCloud and then sign back in?
