Does Apple TV override your TV’s “engine”? I’m just interested in Apple TV’s interface and connectivity with my other Apple devices. I’m pretty happy with my TV’s video quality. And if Apple TV actually bypass the tv engine, is there a way to use the TV’s engine when watching movies instead of the Apple TV?

What do you mean by "TV's engine"? By connecting an Apple TV to your existing TV it will display content at the highest resolution your TV supports.
