Bluetooth issues with Toyota Entune System

Since the most recent update when pairing my iPhone 7 it works for about 2 minutes and the radio system turns off and reboots. Toyota said it was an update issue with Apple and interestingly it does not do it with another phone using IOS 12. Anyone else having this issue and if so any solution? Thanks

So I disabled in the bluetooth settings on my iphone 8plus sync contacts and sync notifications and Bluetooth works perfect. On my Iphone 8plus Im running IOS 13.3.1 and on the entune system Im running firmware 010192. I dont care about syncing contacts to Entune nor do I care about notifications. I just care that I can make and receive calls and listen to music via Amazon music or Apple Music.

A friend of mine is a Toyota Master Tech and said that the 13.x updates do this with certain model Toyota vehicles... For the Camry/Avalon, there is a NEW update for the radio. I have a Tacoma (2017) and right now there is no update, but that may change soon. It's always a battle between manufacturers when this crap happens. Gotta love it!

Hi there, jwsljs.

I see that your iPhone unpairs from your Toyota after about 2 minutes time, and I'm glad to help with this.

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod doesn't connect to or work in your car

"If you connect using Bluetooth

  1. Restart your device.
  2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth, and turn off Bluetooth. Wait for 5 seconds, then turn Bluetooth back on.
  3. Check your car stereo's user manual for how to pair with a Bluetooth device. Most cars require a phone setup on the car display.
  4. If you've connected multiple phones to your car stereo, try renaming your device: Go to Settings > General > About > Name, and type a new name. Then try connecting again.
  5. Update your device.
  6. Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.
  7. If you still can't connect, contact Apple Support."

Take care.

MoonJ, This is happening to me too with a year old Toyota and an Iphone 7. It isn't about the phone unpairing from bluetooth, it is about the pairing causing the entire Toyota radio system to shutdown and reboot- repeatedly. Toyota actually replaced the radio system in my car thinking it was faulty, but the problem persisted with the new radio and I figured out it is my phone. If I leave the phone unpaired, the radio, navigation, etc works fine. If I pair the phone, everything crashes. I paired my work Iphone 8, and it didn't cause any problems. Software on both car system and phone are updated. Thanks

Same problem started with my 4Runner back in November. I thought it was the car stereo. I don't drive that car much so it was only just recently that I realized it had something to do with my i-phone which is an XR. I disconnected the blue tooth and the stereo is fine. I reconnected bluetooth and once again, the radio keeps shutting down and rebooting. Totally frustrating.

Totally agree with Rona2019, this is an Apple problem not a Toyota problem. Everything worked fine until the Apple update.

If you don’t believe it, go buy a Samsung (or other brand of phone) or have a friend with one of those connect to your car and see what happens.

I was on the fence with getting a Samsung phone last summer and I truly regret buying an iPhone.

Next replacement phone, no question, NOT an i-phone!!

Next replacement car, still a Toyota!

I have been having the same issue since November also. I have a Prius and an iPhone XR. I went to the Toyota Dealer in November and they did an update to the software, but the problem continued. I have not connected to phone through Bluetooth since then. I updated my phone yesterday to 13.3.1 and decided to try again. I got a phone call just as I was sitting in the car and connecting the phone. The connection appeared successful and I had no problem as long as I was on the phone through the car Bluetooth. It was a long phone call from my daughter and ended when I pulled into my garage—about 20 minutes later. I thought it was fixed!

This morning I started the car and my phone automatically connected and started playing music through the car system. I tried changing to the radio and the system rebooted immediately. The rebooting loop continued until I went into my iPhone settings and selected “forget this device” for the Prius.

Not fixed.

I got the same story from Toyota that this was a known issue in November and that both Toyota and Apple were working on it. It is now February!
