Problems post-update

After I updated my operating system, I can no longer run my sound editing software. It's telling me I already have it open on my desktop and I have to close one of them to be able to run it properly but nothing is open and I can't access any of my files saved to that software either. It's Audacity so it's not super high-end software, but I still can't get anything to open. Help please!

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, sort on Name , highlight Audacity force Quit.
