do i have to pay for a 64 bit word/excel/powerpoint now?
Exactly the subject. Can I get a functional word/excel/powerpoint in 64 bit or do I have to buy a whole new program?

It depends upon which version you run but any old ones will have to be updated. . For Microsoft Office, Office 2016 has an update. Earlier versions cannot be updated so either purchase or start subscribing to Office 365, or do not upgrade your macOS and continue using the old versions, or use an alternative product. Apple's Pages, Numbers and Keynote are free, but read the post at this link about collaboration issues: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250761616?answerId=251450290022#251450290022. There are other free office suites such as LibreOffice or OpenOffice.
