Airport Extreme dropping connection

Issue with client's Airport Extreme (one month old) needing to be rebooted 4-5 times daily. Clients lose internet connectivity - both wired and wireless - green light on router. Static IP assigned to router and manually entered. Installed in small office - less than 10 users - all Macintosh. Port forwarding on three ports for Daylite CRM. Firmware at 7.5.1, No guest network enabled.
Troubleshooting included:
Switched ISP from ADSL to Cable (completely different technology and modems)
Switched router out and replaced with identical router - reconfigured manually
Turned on interference robustness
Changed both wireless channels
Changed out power supply and put both modem and router on UPS

I have the same problem with AirPort Extreme dropping internet connection requiring restarts.

Anyone?

Here's how to do the reset, though I doubt this will help your wi-fi drop.


RESET NVRAM

  1. Verify the sound is turned on and set to mid volume or higher.
  2. Shut down the Mac. click > Shut Down... Be sure the Mac has been shut down properly with no errors.
  3. Locate the following four keys on the keyboard: Command (), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these

    four keys down simultaneously in step 5.

  4. Turn on the Mac.
  5. Press and hold the Command()-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.
  6. Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.
  7. Release the keys.
  8. ***NOTE*** After resetting NVRAM, verify Find My Mac configuration

  1. Shut down the Mac. Be sure the Mac has been shut down properly with no errors.
  2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
  3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the Power button at the same time.
  4. Release all keys and the power button at the same time.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the Mac.

RESET SMC Older Laptops with removable battery & all Desktops

(Intel based MacBook/Pro or iMac, mini, Mac Pro, or Xserve)

1. Shut down the Mac. Be sure the Mac has been shut down properly with no errors. 2. Disconnect the MagSafe/power cord from the Mac, if it's connected.
3. Remove the battery. (older laptops only)
4. Wait 15 seconds. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.

5. Release the power button.
6. Reconnect the battery (older laptops only) and MagSafe/power cord/adapter. 7. Wait 5 seconds, then press the power button to turn on the Mac.

I wanted to update with my experience to help anyone who might stumble in here with the same issue, like I did.


COX Cable Modem, Docsis 3.0, Airport Extreme (Tower), El Capitan


I was losing internet connectivity randomly for the past three days. Not WiFi, just internet. I ripped my system apart, never could figure it out. Finally saw some posts in here about IPV6, and sure enough, disabling it in the Airport Extreme appears to have immediately resolved the issue.

Whatever you do, Cox, DO NOT send out a communication when you flip the switch. And DO NOT inform your chat techs. They suggested I look at my cables. LOL. Captive audience, I suppose. I have no alternatives. Good luck!
