I bought some after market sponge like tips. It made no difference for me. so I went back to using apple airpodv2 headphones with no issue. Well after my ears healed from the second try I went back to them that is.

I spoke with Amazon and they are giving me extra time to return the airpod pros so I ordered some air pod pro covers to see if they will work. I would remove the silicon tips and put these on instead. I bought two kinds to see if either brand works and one of them that has higher ratings is a bit of a hassle because you have to take off the covers every time you out them in the charger case. I just thought its worth a try. I will receive them on Saturday and test them out next week. I think I'll let Apple know I am still testing them out in case they would like the info.
Same thing with the watch after a week and fall detection did not work. They pretty much told me so sad too bad your problem not ours! Then I said I will just call my credit card company and get the refund from them! Then Apple was willing to help me. So if you have purchased your Apple product from your credit card and your credit card will allow you to stop payment I would recommend going that route. Hope this helps!
I've been on this thread since January and I am one who tried other tips, including other silicone and foam. No joy. The reaction kicked in immediately.
I've been using in-ear buds for many years. This is the first time I've ever had any problem. Someone posted a link to an Apple warning about possible sensitivities. I am not allergic to nickel or to methylacrylates/acrylates, so that is not my problem.
I gave myself 6 weeks earbud free so my ears are almost back to normal. (Yes, it really took that long to clear up. There is still some slight itching, but nothing at all like it was.) I just bought some Galaxy earbuds to try, and I think that they are working okay for me. I've still got a little itching, but that had not ever completely cleared up. I am wearing them for shorter durations (an hour or so at a time) until I'm sure all is well.
I had never gone to Apple customer service with this because I hoped something would work out (new tips, etc.) but I think I'm going to do it now. I bought through Best Buy, not Apple, so we'll see how it goes.
i believe it’s important for Apple to hear all of these complaints regardless where you purchased your AirPod pros. The Apple reps I talked to seemed truly interested but when I asked if they had seen all the comments on the spoke community, the first rep I asked about that said they don’t check these comments. So I would urge them to follow these reports and everyone report these problems. The more data they have, the more likely it is they will work on the issue.

Well... I didn’t have an allergy before the AirPods a few weeks ago- but apparently I do now! I can’t wear my earrings and my eyeglass stems are bothering me.
Thinking I’m allergic to both silicone + nickel ??? I believe some hair products also contain silicone derivatives?? My neckline is very itchy now w/a rash.
I went to urgent care- fluid behind my right eardrum- no infection. It’s still clogged x 5 days after my raging red ears/itchiness/fluid draining episode last wk. Apple knows- I sent them pix and related issue. I’ve ordered foam tips to experiment. Waiting for the ear fullness to completely resolve. I do have small ear canals. Just wonder if it’s from the noise cancellation and blocking the airflow??

I figured the issue is with the plastic the case and the APPs are made of. even if the tips were ok, they will end up touching the plastic one way or another. in fact I don't get as strong of a reaction when using the tips, but I can still definitely tell that there's something going on.
I think out of curiosity I'll try using them after taking a anti-hystamine pill for allergies, I wonder if that makes any difference. if it really is an allergy, it should, right? otherwise it's some other sort of reaction but I'm not an MD so really no idea.
Yes, You are right. There are inherent sensitivity differences. I suspect it will be different for everybody. It also may depend on the length of time. I am going on the fact that I rechallenged my self twice over several months and had the same reaction each time followed by full resolution when I stopped using the AirPod Pro's. That was enough to convince me!
Followup on my case: I am to expect a full refund by next week according to customer relations expert. I bought mine directly from Apple with AppleCare for them as well.. I've found that I get better treatment if I don't buy from resellers.. fact? no, just a feeling. Buying a new pair o AirPods 2nd generation as replacements once the refund is done.

Yes. You describe the infection perfectly. I will tell you that if the infection comes back strong after you test alternative tips, your doctor can help you speed up the recovery process with a prescription. You don’t want to fool around with your ears too much!
