connecting ipad to catalina

I have an iPad with the latest updates; 13.2.3. I have a Mac mini, late 2014, 10.10.5.

Up until a few days ago, when I installed the latest iPad update, I was using Yosemite and was able to connect with the iPad. After the updated iPad I was no longer able to connect. That in itself was frustrating. Then I installed Catalina to the mini, hoping to solve the problem. With both devices now using the latest OS, for some reason, I am not able to connect the two while they are connected via cable.

Talk about frustrating!

Will someone please tell me why this is happening and how to correct it? I seem to be participating in these forums much more since apple has made "improvements" to their OS.

Thanks again.

What exactly are you trying to do? While I'm just getting started with a Mac computer, I do know with Catalina, you do not connect via iTunes any longer, you view the iPad via Finder. Does this help, Use the Finder to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support

Hello,

The easiest way that comes to mind is to select the folder Choose File > Compress. This will create a compressed folder. You would then use AirDrop to transfer the .zip file to your iPad.

Use AirDrop on your Mac - Apple Support

Save this file to the Files application. Tap on the file to uncompress it. All of your photos and video should now be saved locally to your iPad.

I have been trying to transfer a folder of jpegs and a video from the mini to the iPad. These files are NOT in the photos app but in a desktop folder. I want to take the iPad to the client and show them, without an internet connection.

This, I was trying to do using my old Yosemite OS connected to the iPad. A few days ago, as I indicated above, I was able to connect this way. Then, after updating the iPad, all that changed. I had to partition the hard drive so as to keep Yosemite and install Catalina. [Keeping Yosemite allows me to use my old adobe programs; PS CS3 & AE CS4]. Now that I'm able to connect with the new OS I am going to try again. I was able to use dropbox for the video and may well be able to do the same with the jpegs (fingers crossed). If you know of a better way to accomplish this, please advise.

I realize I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but it seems as though apple keeps trying to dull my edge...

Still hopeful that my time here asking more questions will be limited but I'm confident apple will find a way to make me return again and again and ...

Thanks for your help.
