Clearing trash from USB stick
Under Mojave, is there any way of clearing the trash on a memory stick without also clearing all the trash on the iMac hard drive

Using Disk Utility.app you can always reformat the USB stick to erase all data.

Be more descriptive of what "trash" means to you? Are you referring to ._blah files? If those, then consider the dot_clean command in the Terminal. Replace MyUSBStick with your mounted device name.
man dot_clean
./dot_clean -m /Volumes/MyUSBStick
I am wanting to copy a large folder of mp3 files to a USB stick, and did not select quite the correct folder, so deleted it from the stick. When I tried to copy the correct folder the transfer was refused because there was not sufficient capacity remaining empty on the stick. I was told to try About This Mac > Storage. That shows that the stick is indeed nearly full, but offers no way of clearing it.
I am afraid that I not confident enough to follow your advice on using a command in Terminal, without further Help!
