Lucky bags are nothing more than a semi-random assortment of merchandise chosen by the merchant and put into a sealed shopping bag with the same purchase price for each bag on the same table. Clothing stores will often label the size of the goods inside, but will not disclose the content descriptions.
Promotional information says that this year's lucky bags will likely be priced just under 40,000 yen and will contain merchandise that may be worth as much as 100,000 yen.
- Anyone may purchase a lucky bag, though they are usually limited to one bag per customer. There may be items in the lucky bag that are only usable in Japan, such as devices with NFC transceivers in them. There may be items that are only covered by a Japanese warranty.
- There is a good chance, but no guarantee, that there will be enough lucky bags to go around. It is likely, though, that the store will post the number of lucky bags available in the store.
- All regular payment methods are acceptable. (I don't speak for Apple, but that is their history.) Mail orders are not accepted.
If you are living in Japan, especially if you are living within easy distance of an Apple Store, this may be worthwhile for you. If you are not living in Japan, I don't recommend visiting just for this purpose.
