Macbook pro 16 2019 freezes randomly and restarts

I just bought a new macbook pro 16 inch 2019 that came with Catalina, I set it up as a new mac and installed some apps (Chrome) and started using it.

The problem is it always freezes at some points and I have to manually restart it by pressing the power button for a few seconds until it shuts down.

This might be just me, but I think this shouldn't happen on a laptop thats costs 2699€.

I updated it to the last version of Catalina and this didn't fix the problem.

I wanted to go back to Mojave, not an option I guess.

What is going on Apple?

I finally called Apple Support about this problem, having suffered the freezing and other GPU problems since the first day. After putting me on hold and checking with her supervisor, she did confirm this is a known problem with the MacBook Pro 16 Inch models. She did remote into my MacBook to verify the model and hardware configuration (specifically looking at the AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB GPU). She created an appointment at my local Apple Store and I will be given a new computer (not refurb). I did ask if Apple has identified the specific problem, and she told they have and all new models have the issue resolved.

It seems this was/is a hardware problem (not software) and replacing the computer is the only solution.

I will be replacing my Space Gray MacBook Pro 16 Inch tomorrow at the Apple Store. I hope this will resolve the problem.

I suggest others contact Apple Support and get their computer replaced.

Good Luck…

My model config is…

I just got my macbook 16 2019 back a week ago with a replaced logic board and replaced touchbar. So far I have had a buttery smooth experience, but I can still get the error code intelaccelerator interupt when I use geekbench 5 metal, so either that error means nothing or I have to experience the microfeezes yet. Been good so far and I’ll report back if micro freezes or having to restart computer because freezes

I do have the same problem with my MBP 2019 16'-inch.

Specs:

2,3 GHz 8 core Intel Core i9,

16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4,

Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Contrary to many people here, it happens even only Safari is open -even with 1 tab-. My quick solution is to close the lid, and then re-open it. It unfreezes automatically.

I still haven't figured out the reason to this problem, but I am looking forward to a solution from Apple with Big Sur.

No I don't have anything connected to it. I bought it in France.

I don't really ant to return it as that will mean losing a lot of time backing up and restoring a new one. I think it's just a software issue and a lot of peple seem to be having this problem.

The freezing usually occurs when I'm browing on Chrome. I have to do a hard reset everytime it happens.

My 16" MBP is also crashing randomly, twice today. It is not hot, the fan is not running, I have only Chrome, Safari and Lightroom (which is minimized) running and the cursor just freezes. After a minute or so, the fan spins up like a turbo jet taking off and the screen goes black. When the fan stops, I press the power button and it restarts and gives me the send crash dump to apple support dialog, but the only text in the report is something like "Bad Magic... panic." Just started after 3 weeks of trouble free use.

This is actually my second 16" unit. I received the first one 3 days after they were announced and it crashed every time I tried to load the 10.15.1 supplemental update. I took it to the A store and after 2 tries at reloading the OS, it still crashed, so they gave me a replacement. This one has been great, except that I'm still getting repeat characters on occasion, (maybe it is me but I never get them on my 2013 13")

Not much I can do about it but it is a major disappointment to spend over $3K with Applecare and tax, especially after 3 years of misery with my 15" MBP.

Similar issue with my new macbook:

Apple 16" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, 9th-Gen 8-Core Intel i9 2.3GHz, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB, Silver, Late 2019

Connected to henge stone dock with 2 external monitors. It crashed every time it went to sleep for any extended amount of time. I returned it with 48 hours of receiving it. Experienced 4 crashes in that time. One that corrupted my mysql db. Now wondering if any of these new macbooks would be stable with my setup. Seems not. I'm sticking with my old 2016 mbp until I see some of these issues resolved.
