iOS 13 Apps Freezing on Launch

After upgrading to iOS 13, I’ve noticed apps have been freezing when I launch them. In particular this has been happening with Outlook, but I have also noticed it with Dropbox, eBay and other apps too.

When launched the apps may show their splash screen, and then either crash, or progress to a frozen screen and remain unresponsive. I have tried relaunching the apps, force closing the apps, but the same problem occurred. My only solution is to restart the phone, then the app will work perfectly for a while.

This is very frustrating as I’m finding I need to restart my phone multiple times per day.

iOS 13 has been an absolute dumpster fire from day 1, and I am extremely frustrated.

I have an iPhone SE, and the issue remains even on 13.2.3.

Hey there, NSPerson,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. If I understand you post, several apps are misbehaving since updating to iOS 13 on your iPhone, and in order to fix the issue you must restart the phone. I'm happy to help!

There are a number of reasons your apps may be acting unexpectedly since updating your iOS software. For example, immediately after an update your phone is adjusting to changes to features and settings in the background, which can effect how the phone behaves when you try to use it. Additionally, apps that were installed prior to an iOS update may also require an update to perform optimally.

Given that, I would suggest starting your troubleshooting by reviewing About iOS performance on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support, and implanting the suggested steps. I would also encourage you to check for app updates, if you haven't already. You can do this by opening the App Store app and selecting Updates from the bottom menu.

If you still have trouble after that, the steps in If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open - Apple Support may help.

For more assistance after that, though, I would recommend getting in touch with Apple Support directly, which you can do here: Contact Apple Support.

Best.

Hi @alex_h1,

Thanks for trying to help. I have already completed the steps in those links - e.g. plenty of storage space left on my device.

As these are 3rd party apps, I don't imagine Apple will offer any support. I'm just going to wait for a future update and continue restarting my phone multiple times per day in the meantime.

Cheers.
