Apple Music app has disappeared from phone and will not reinstall from App Store
The included Apple Music app on my iPhone 11 (with iOS 13.2.3) has completely disappeared from the phone. Search does not find it. And though the cloud icon with download arrow appears in the App Store beside the Apple Music app, indicating that the App Store acknowledges that I am entitled to the app, tapping the cloud icon does not result in re-installing the app. My research suggests that the result should be nearly instantaneous. But there is just an endlessly turning wheel, every time I try and I have tried many times. I have tried while connected to my home WiFi and to cellular data, but neither approach makes any difference.
Before the app disappeared, it failed to load a few times. Then after the final attempt to open failed, the app simply disappeared. Completely. I can only conclude that some code or whatever relating to the Music app has become corrupted.
Before all this happened, I used the app often to listen to music since purchasing the phone a month or so ago. It worked fine. I have a valid subscription to Apple Music. It has not expired, and works fine on other devices such as iPad Air 2 and MacBook Air (2018). using the equivalent app on those devices.
I have never experienced this before on any iPhone or iOS version. It is not like accidentally deleting an app or misplacing it. Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone know of a solution? I don't want to have to completely reset my phone and reinstall and configure everything just to recover one app that should be part of the OS!! Plus I'm paying a subscription for a service that I can no longer use on my phone! Whatever happened to "it just works" ? It just doesn't!
