Photos App - Slide show - order of photos

When I have about 200 photos to put in a slideshow - in chronological order, no matter if the photos are labelled alphabetically, named alphabetically, or the timestamps are adjusted one at a time putting them in Time Order (which I did manually in hopes to remedy the failed order that Photos puts them in), the Photos App will place them in an order that Photos wants to place them in, not matching the order that I hoped by labeling them in order, naming them in order, or time stamping them in order.

So I go to drag them one at a time and manually place them in order and this works for about 10 photos, but sure enough, Photos App will reset the order in an order that Photos App wants them in and it appears to be random.

This happens with multiple Photos Libraries, multiple users on same system, and on multiple systems with various versions of Photos App. I can get it to work in old system running iPhoto, but never the Photos App.

So slideshows are useless in the Photos App, if you are wanting the slideshow to show your photos in chronological order.

So my questions is: What photo organizing App does everyone use other than Photos?

The only way to get a slideshow in Photos in the order you want is to create the slideshow from the album, not to select the photos in the album and drag them to the slideshow. Photos does not always preserve the order of selected photos when dragging them somewhere.

  • Select the album in the sidebar, not the photos in the album
  • Right-click or ctrl-click the album, then use the command "Create > Slideshow > Apple"

The resulting slideshow will usually be arranged like the album, but use one of the themes with only one photo per slide, for example "Ken Burns" or "Classic." The themes with more than one photo per slide will rearrange the the photos to fit the fixed order of the templates.
