AMPDevicesAgent using 100%+ CPU, fans always spinning, computer won't sleep

I have the latest OS 10.15.1 and after upgrading there is a "AMPDevicesAgent" in my process monitor that is always using 98%-110% (didn't know that was possible) of CPU. My fans have been spinning for days, and the computer won't sleep. My MacBook Pro is hot to the touch.

Have the same problem from time to time - seems like when an iOS device is trying to sync/backup over wi-fi for me and the process gets interrupted that MacOS continues to tie up resources in an attempt to continue to sync/backup. The finder stays stuck trying to sync the iOS device. I can't even shutdown the system normally because this process runs constantly and is stuck.

The one workaround I have found is to go into Activity Monitor, find 'AMPDevicesAgent', select it and click on the information button, and quit the process. Then I can eject the iOS devices on finder.

A second workaround could be to uncheck the 'automatically sync over wifi' box but then my iPhone and iPad wouldn't sync to the Mac for my music and such as I don't subscribe to Apple Music.

As mentioned, it is only a workaround. I have to restart the Mac in order for it to 'find' the iOS devices again and sync them.

Hi tyler82,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! I understand you are experiencing some performance concerns with your MacBook Pro, and I'd like to help.

Take a look over this support article, as it provides more insight into how apps can affect your Mac performance and fan activity: See how apps affect Mac performance, battery runtime, temperature, and fan activity - Apple Support. Do you have an iOS device connected to your Mac when you are seeing the 'AMPDevicesAgent' in CPU?

You'll also find some more helpful information related to your Mac performance here: If your Mac runs slowly - Apple Support.

If the fan speeds and high CPU process continues, please try resetting the SMC next: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support.

If you need continued support, feel free to reach back out with an update.

Regards.
