Apple pencil 1.gen (firmware 02.48.00)

My first apple pencil from 2016 is not working. Thats ok (firmware 02.40.00). The pencil is fast popping up on the iPad, but just disappear after few seconds. Then I bought a new apple pencil last week. And the same problem is happening! This firmware is (02.48.00, notthe latest one) I got an iPad pro 12,9 first gen. with ios 13.2.1. I tried booth of the pencil at my local service senter and apple store. It didn't work there either. The tech guy was a little bit embarrassed. So now I am sitting here with two apple pencil 1.generation, because of a bug in the iOS firmware. (I think the problem is the relation between the os firmware and the pencil firmware, because a friend of my use the same pencil but with the 02.61.00 update on the pencil) ...(and yes I have tried all the troubleshooting apple told me) ...

I have recieved a new in box apple pencil 1st gen for my Ipad Pro 10.5 which was also recieved new in box for Christmas 2019, which is listed as supporting this pencil and have the exact same problem. I have returned my pencil and gotten a replacement and it also fails to pair long enough to use. I have gone through the forums and online and tried hard reset of Ipad, turning bluetooth on and off, making sure pencil is centered in charging port. having pencil fully charged. I was only able to get a partial pairing long enough to see that the battery app showed the pencil while plugged into the Ipad Pro 10.5 was at 100%, when I removed pencil to use the battery app quickly showed the pencil dropped to 1% land unpaired. That only happened once out of the two new pencils I have used. Plugging in most the time shows the pair window very quickly and then it dissappears, pushing pair does not work when you are able to catch it, to push . The about in settings does the same thing showing the pencil flashing in and out and if you are super quick you can push the > symbol and get a screen that flashes up fast and shows the version model and firmware version, which is easier to read if you have a phone camera ready to take a picture of it when is is up for a second. got to be quick. My wife also has a Ipad Pro 10.5 from 2017 and has a pencil 1 so I borrowed hers and it paired up with my Ipad Pro 10.5 no problem just as you would expect, not a problem, I then checked in Settings, General, About and found that her pencil 1 is version 02.61.00 , it had updated in her Ipad Pro while plugged in. I suspect that if one could update their new pencil 1 to the latest firmware it too would work with Ipad OS version 13.3. I called tech support and they suggested all the things I had done and finally suggested I either send in both my Ipad Pro 10.5 and my pencil 1 or take them to a Apple Support Center. Yes, I know what your thinking, why don't you update on your wifes Ipad Pro 10.5 , and I will do this soon , hopefully my new pencil will update the firmware on her Ipad to work on my Ipad. Pretty sure this is a issue of software, Ipad OS 13.3 and pencil firmware not being compatible.

Not an easy missive to follow...

A suggestion - have you tried pair and charging the Apple Pencil, with which you are having some difficulty, with your wife’s iPad Pro 10.5”? If the Pencil requires a firmware update (and the iPad is capable of doing so) then you will be able to test the Pencil with a known-good iPad. If successful, then the Pencil is good.

Once Pencil tested (and potentially proven) with a known-good iPad, you can repeat the exercise with your own iPad Pro 10.5”.

Given that you have a known-good iPad, following this simple test should readily and definitively demonstrate which of the two devices (the new Apple Pencil - or your iPad) has a fault.

For reference, my existing Apple Pencils (Model A1603) are Hardware Version 01.00.00 - Firmware Version 02.61.00.

I'm having exactly the same problem with the pencil (firmware 02.48.00) on an ipad 7th gen. While I have the pencil plugged in, the 'pair' option comes up but if i leave it a second then it disappears by itself. If I open the 'about' tab in general settings, then i see the pencil constantly disappearing and reappearing whilst it is plugged in. I have tried all the standard troubleshoooting options (fully charging the pencil, full reset and even factory resetting of ipad, etc)

Have you got any further with solving your issue?

I just finished trying to pair my new Apple Pencil 1 with my wifes Ipad Pro 10.5 which she had updated to Ipad OS 13.3 a few months back and the new pencil exhibited the same no pairing situation. Pretty sure now that the new Pencil 1 with its firmware version 02.48.00 is not compatible with Ipad OS 13.3. Oh well , to bad that I-tunes won't let me update the firmware of the pencil, it would be soooo much easier. Apple are you reading this?

Same problem here. A few days ago I bought a used iPad pro 9.7" which the previous owner still hadn't updated to iPadOS. I also bought from him a first generation Apple pencil (firmware version 2.46.00). I used both for a couple hours and everything was fine. The next day I updated to iPadOS and that's when everything started: no more coupling between the two devices, no more charging from the iPad's port, nothing. The Apple pencil keeps appearing and disappearing from the list in General>info and doesn't appear in the battery widget. Earlier today I went in an Apple store searching for help but the guy there knew less than me about this problem and, as he said that they can't force the firmware update to 2.61.00, the best he could tell me was to buy a new one. Yeah, great, thanks man. Anyone luckier than me?
