AirPods Pro + Apple TV = no volume control

If connected to Apple TV with AirPods Pro I can not control the volume with Apple TV remote.

If any media is running, say Netflix or Music, and I use the remote to lower or raise the volume, nothing happens.

If Apple TV is showing the home screen and I try setting the volume the volume control hud is shown (“Chris’s AirPods Pro ...”). Pressing the + or - on the remote changes the bars on the volume hud on Apple TV but the volume is not being changed.

what is going on here?

Another thing you can check is the connection method. In my case using the side menu in home screen (long press TV button on remote) won't work. In order to use the volume with my AirPods i have to connect using the settings/remote and devices/bluetooth/connect.

Ok. To solve the problem on your Apple TV just got to Settings / Remotes and Devices / Volume Control and choose Auto.

The resolution to this is to unpair your airpods. Then click in the manual sync button on your airpods and repair your aipods to the apple tv from the bluetooth menu. And Boom your up and running.
