My mom lives quite far away and isn't as computer savvy as most of us.
So I was very excited to learn about MacOS' screen sharing function.
But it seems like this only works for computers when they are on the same network.
Is there any way to make this work for computers on different networks?

From what I've read is that you want to be able to screen share with your mom. I'd like to help. Have you checked out the screen share feature with iMessage? Share screens using Messages on Mac There is also a feature to let you control the Mac if allowed, this would make things easier if you need to show something. There are plenty of third party apps that can help you with this as well if the screen share with messages isn't what you're looking for.
