how to transfer an ebay applecare

Hello,

there’s an iMac on eBay I’m interested in and it has 8 months of AppleCare left on it. If I were to purchase it how would I transfer the policy to me and the iMac? Are there certain proofs or things I need to get the current owner to do? ie. what paperwork do I need , do I need the current owner to change any settings on the machine?

Also, if I wished to extend the AppleCare policy beyond its remaining 8 months, could that be done?

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. So is there an ownership document? Do I need an AppleCare document? How about purchase receipt? Also, I hear the owner needs to disable something in settings that is more than just a delete and factory re install. If I have a few specifics than I would not overlook anything. I have to travel to another city to collect it, so don’t want to leave anything out. Thanks

AppleCare is associated with the computer not the owner. So if the seller is being truthful and there is time left then you are fine. That being said, I would NEVER buy a computer from E-Bay. If you are trying to save money, then buy an Apple Refurbished Mac which has no downside. They are identical to new, have the original 1 year warranty, are eligible for AppleCare, and can save hundreds of $$. You can find them on www.apple.com navigate to the bottom of the page and click the Refurbished link. If you don't find exactly what you want, check frequently as inventory changes very fast.

That's a very helpful answer. Many Thanks. I know it's a better and safer bet all round to go for a an apple refurbished mac, just frustrating to wait for one I'm after. As I'm looking at old (2017) the choices tend to be limited to specific, off the shelf models rather than the custom build ones. Guess I may need to make a compromise and go for a refurbished one. Having said that, I am considering going for an ebay ipad, as it will get less use than the Imac, and I am willing to take the risk, especially as I'm less picky about an ipad, and they are generally quite cheap, so less of a loss. The same AppleCare issue concerns those. Would it be possible to finish any existing months left on an Applecare and just before it expires renew it. I'm not sure if Apple care is a one off 3 year policy, or if it can be renewed to carry on for another 3 years. Is that done, or do people not bother, as the product will be getting older and therefore less productive to use, especially as new OSX or IOS require better hardware to perform optimally. Thanks again.
