Migration Assistant - missing photos and music

I have been a Mac user for over 20 years and it is SO frustrating how hard it is to transfer photos and music between macs without putting everything on the cloud. I bought a new iMac yesterday, used Migration Assistant specifically to transfer photos and music to the new Mac and after 4 hours of transferring files I can’t find ANY photos or songs on the new Mac. Any ideas? This seems to be a common problem but I can’t figure it out. Both machines running Catalina.
