Apple Podcast App Crashing

This problem has just arisen today. While playing one of the many podcasts I love to pass the time with at work, my podcast stopped mid-stream without me prompting it to do so. I tried to load the app again and restart where I left off, and it shut down after 10-15 seconds of audio. I’ve restarted my phone, deleted and re-loaded the app and done everything short of a factory reset to attempt to get it working without result. Read on forums that factory reset has not helped either. The consensus seems to be that the most recent software patch is bleeding into the podcast app and functionality is being lost as a result. Any help you could provide would be appreciated. As soon as humanly possible. It’s a very quiet and boring place at my work. Need help.

I'm having this problem as well. I read on another forum that switching the phone to Airplane Mode will allow you to listen to your podcasts uninterrupted. I tried this and it definitely works but I'm not sure how long I want to sit here listening in Airplane Mode. :(

Same, been happening since first thing this morning. I downloaded a few episodes thinking maybe my wifi was the issue, but nope.

I have two iphones (7 & 11) and it's happening on both of them, so it's an app problem.

I agree with other posters, Airplane mode seems to help...but now I'm in frigging airplane mode?

Will likely switch to Spotify shortly, just annoying as they don't know what episodes i've already listened to...

My Apple Podcast App was working fine over the weekend. However, on my commute to work on Monday morning, the Podcast App started to crash frequently (sometimes immediately, sometimes after 20 seconds, sometimes after a few minutes). I tried restarting my iPhone XR, I also tried deleting the Podcast App and re-installing the Podcast App. Nothing seems to help and the Podcast App continues to crash every time I open it. Please help, Apple!

As a frequent podcast listener, I started having this problem today, as well. I am on iOS 12, and I hope that updating to iOS 13 will fix this problem. I have been waiting, however, because I use Reminders a lot, and I want to update my MacBook Pro and iPhone at the same time to avoid syncing issues with the new version of that app. It is comforting to know I am not the only one with the Podcast problem.

Today’s crashing out of the Apple podcast after a couple of seconds is super-annoying. I live in the UK and it was fine this morning and at lunchtime. It keeps crashing out since I’ve been commuting home from work in the early evening. Apple - please fix! So many of us rely on it to keep us company when commuting, working, working-out etc

SOLVED! It’s because a new IOS update 13.2.3 just dropped which apparently requires you to install it in order to get your Podcast app working properly again. I failed to get any of the suggested solutions to fix this (tried the “one second App hold”, uninstalling the app, cycling my phone after hard reboot, etc) BUT I finally got it fixed after double checking in my settings to see if there was an IOS software update ready to be installed. And there was🤦🏼‍♂️

So I downloaded IOS 13.2.3 and... YAHTZEE!!!!

I hate to disabuse you of the 13.2.3 update as a fix - I’ve been on 13.2.3 since the day after it was released, and I still had the problem. Also, I manually download my podcasts, only download over wifi, and do not have background refresh on either.

A few are reporting that the problem appears to be fixed. I did do a WiFi reset in my home, but I don’t think this was the issue, as the app started crashing for me when I was out of my home. I’m not sure why an iCloud problem would have led to the app crashing, since I listen to downloaded, not streamed podcasts. (Suggests that there’s some interaction between the app and Apple, even if not tethered via WiFi?)

The fix wasn't running iOS 13.2.3. I have been running this version since it came out. It does appear that the issue is now "magically resolved", just as it "magically broke" today without any action on the end user's part. I am watching my weekly podcast again without issue. So whatever software patch Apple rolled out earlier today, they apparently fixed or rolled it back to make all right in the world of Apple Podcast listening once again.
