POP3 Incoming email configuration

I have configured my mail.app for POP3 incoming but it still leaves my mail on the server. What setting am I missing?

The default now is for IMAP, so you would need to configure it manually; I don't quite remember, but I believe you have to use the Option key when you first start setting up Mail (choose other account in the window where accounts are being offered and press Option while moving to the next window) in Internet Account at which point it allows you to configure it to POP with whatever settings you need for your ISP. This is from memory - try at your own risk.
No, it is already configured and operational. The POP3 connection does not DOWNLOAD and REMOVE my
emails from the SERVER! This is probably a Mac mail.app selection (which I cannot find) because POP3 can
do both, leave email on the server or remove it. I wish for it to be REMOVED.

in my mail app under mail->preferences->accounts
I choose my hotmail account it's the only pop3 I have
under Account Information tab
under the email Address: dropdownbox
I have a checkbox called [Remove copy from server after retrieving a message]
