Administrator can't sign into iCloud.

My mini has an administrator and a user. I signed out of iCloud as the administrator and now I can't sign back in. The user is is still signed in to iCloud. When I go to System Preferences and click on iCloud it shows my email address and asks for my Apple ID password. After entering it, it asks for the administrator's password. After entering it, the little wheel next to the sign in button turns for MANY minutes then returns to asking for my Apple ID password.

Help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Please clarify who is a second " user " did you created a second admin account for this user or a standard account https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mtusr001/mac

A screen shot for users and groups can be posted , so that is easy to understand ( hide your mail address / photo , also is this a refurbished Mac .

It depends upon you to create a new Apple ID and password and an admin account on new iPad Pro 11 see this https://support.apple.com/en-ke/HT202033 , it is not necessary to always sync devices using same Apple ID and password on the same network and share passwords / ids .

Regarding hiding preview is used to delete any part in a screen shot https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/preview/prvw15636/mac

I assume if I enable keychain in iCloud on my mini and the new iPad that the extra keychain I created under the user account will show on both. Is that accurate? -------there is no need to create a extra keychain folder in user library , if your login keychain is corrupted in mac in that scenarios open keychain access via spotlight , right click on login keychain and delete references and if you create a empty keychain folder in user library in Mac it won't show in iPad .

Also , login keychain and iCloud Keychain are quite different .

See these https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/keychain-access/kyca1https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/keychain-access/kyca1120/mac

The passcode is generated from iPad as you are signed in with same Apple ID and password both on iPad and Mac on the same network .

This is general article to save passwords https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/keychain-access/kyca1120/mac

But in your case it is not required .

Thanks for response tygb.

This is not a refurbished Mac, it is our main home computer on which I do all my "stuff". Years ago when it was first setup I was told it was more secure to have an admin account and a "user" account, so there is just one of each. I rarely login as the admin.

Thus far we only do stuff involving dollars on this Mac and have but one iCloud account.

My problems started because we just bought a new iPad pro 11 and decided the security is such that it can be the wife's computer and she can do all her stuff, including dollars, on it.

I'm off to study the link you included and learn how to hide my email address in a screen shot.

Thanks again for your help,

I did the reading and a lot of thinking and started to setup a reply, things went differently this time. Logged in as admin and went to System Preferences, clicked iCloud, Apple ID was requested, then the admin password was requested. This time it didn't get stuck there. It requested the passcode for the old iPad and when entered I got iCloud access!! I don't know what was different this time.

I assume if I enable keychain in iCloud on my mini and the new iPad that the extra keychain I created under the user account will show on both. Is that accurate?

Thanks for the help and interest!!
