External DVD writer

I bought an Apple External superdrive and couldn't get it to work on my iMac so I returned it. I now have an LG external dvd/cd reader and writer and would like help in how to set it up with my computer. All that ever shows is the map of continents and when running a disc it shows not permitted. Any ideas and help on this.

iMac 21.5", macOS 10.15

Superdrive for a 2022 M2 Macbook air? I have my Apple Superdrive with a USB A connector that I use with my mac Mini and my old 2012 MacBook air. I want to use it to load some Language CD's onto my 2022 Air, but it only has the USB C or lightning port. I have a little end adaptor for UBS a to C, but nothing came up on my Mac. It didn't seem to power the Superdrive either. Is there a solution (or is there a newer Superdrive out there for this?)

SuperDrive I have an early 2015 MacBook retina, I want to get an external optical drive to play DVD films on, I want to get an Apple drive I have found two different models made by Apple which are A1270 and A1379 which one would be compatible? I have had trouble with compatibility before with a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch running El Capitan, bought a brand new SuperDrive from Apple plugged it in, computer said no! Had to send back, just don’t want to go down that road again! Any advice would be helpful indeed thanks

You need to set the region for the LG reader to work. Set to 0 to play all regions.

Is the LG DVD writer/reader a bus powered appliance? You might go to OWC(macsales.com) and check out their optical drives.

They pretty much are Mac specific and work flawlessly with all Mac computers. I have 2 of them and never have had a problem.

Tried all of that too and it still didn't play any of our old DVDs.
