new superdrive, trouble with region thing

new superdrive, region thing doesn't workNew SuperDrive. First use. Put in a US-made DVD to test it out. Window comes up that the region doesn't match the drive, need to set it. It says the Drive is Region -1. Map shows US is Region 1. I select Region 1 from the drop-down and then save. (Yes I do have the lower left lock symbol unlocked.) Nothing happens. The request to set Region window remains. The player window is just black and does nothing. And nothing happens when I click the play arrow.

Please reset the NVRAM and restart in Safe Mode. I have included links below that have instructions for each:

Actually, someone on the board found out that you need to use a non-Catalina OS to set the region on a SuperDrive, once it is set you can use it on Catalina.

Thank you! I ended up contacting phone support and they walked me through all the steps. We kept getting the same symptoms and the advisor finally said the Superdrive is bad and I need to go back to the Apple Store and swap it out.
