scroll bar in safari no longer hides

Hi

I have just upgraded my Mac mini so Catalina is now version 10.15.1 and safari is 13.0.3.

Since doing so Safari no longer fades out the scroll bar, note that the same happens in Firefox.

The problem is very distracting because when, for example, a page is displayed that has a side menu that prevents scrolling the pages body while the menu is open, now jumps slightly left and right every time the menu is displayed and hidden as it first hides the scroll bar, giving up some width, and then takes it back again when it reappears.

I.e. the scrollbar no longer fades in and out without affecting the layout of the page.

I checked the accessibility options and various other options but couldn't find any clues.

I have two others machines, one with an older browser and one with 13.0.4 and both display as I would expect.

I'm hoping someone out there has a fix, or its a bug that will get fixed.

Cheers

Mark

Because that’s what having a mouse connected does. A mouse has to be your only external pointing device. I just tried it on my MacBook Pro. Connecting the mouse didn’t do anything. I had to turn bluetooth off so that my Magic Trackpad wasn’t connected. That caused scroll bars to appear virtually everywhere. When I turned bluetooth back on, they went away again.

Interesting, will give it a go. I’d did have a Bluetooth track pad on at the time.

Either way, still no reason (logically) for the different behaviour, it adds no value. It’s just a pain, would like to know if there’s something I can do to prevent it. I noticed it testing a web page, seems very unprofessional :(

will confirm what happens later today, sprawled out with a bad back at the moment and don’t want to move.

thanks again...
