iPad Remote app for itunes (Music) Catalina no longer works

I have a brand new 13" MBP upgraded to Catalina 10.15.2 and a fully current iPhone7. Remote for iTunes still sees the music on my Mac but cannot control play. I can select a song or an album, but when I press "Play" nothing happens.

Ditto. Upgraded all but still has the same problem.
